The Chosen is the first multi-season show about Jesus and the highest crowd-funded project of all time (at $10 million from over 19,000 people). It has been translated into 50 languages (and counting) and consistently ranked in the top 50 entertainment apps on iOS and Android. It is free to watch on The Chosen app with no fee or subscription.
CY LL The Chosen has brought a lot of joy to a lot of people! People reference it in sermons and small groups and around families. God’s presence shines through and it’s dramatic and humorous, and true to scripture. Please tell us what your role is with The Chosen?
KW Essentially my title is Vice President of Original Content so I collaborate with the producers and the creators on The Chosen itself. For example, my team will be overseeing the filming of the feeding of the 5000: that massive event bringing together 10,000 to 12,000 extras over two days! My team did all the original content of the Christmas special. On any project I might be working as the producer or executive producer.
Our team also oversees any theatrical releases and external projects, such as the development of a documentary with Jonathan Roumie, the actor who plays Jesus.
We have an amazing piece of content coming out geared towards the Gen Z demographic (ages 13 to 25), the working title is Gen Z Unfiltered. We brought together nine Gen Z-ers from around the country for a blind experiment to binge the first season of The Chosen and tracked their responses. They are from vastly different faith backgrounds and worldviews, and together they interacted with this authentic Jesus and told us what they loved about him and what they didn’t love. Many of them had a profound journey after watching it.
