Introducing Fred Craddock: pioneer of the ‘inductive method’

‘I recall…’ was a favourite way for Fred Craddock to start his sermons.
I recall my ministry in Poland. No matter what the weather I would walk across the old town of Warsaw to hear my friend preach. Kerry Purselle was a pastor of International Church, originally from North Carolina. Kerry’s sermons were different; they were alive, imaginative, they were more than well prepared – they were nurtured in the silence of her study. She had a great ability to weave Scripture into the fabric of people’s lives; in her sermons she referred to poems, literature, the arts, and yet she also stayed faithful to the text. I felt I was invited to participate in each sermon she preached. Until then, I had never heard anyone preach like that. What made her such a good preacher?
