‘Sir, we want to see Jesus.1 These words are written on a plaque on the wall in Penhurst Parish Church. They are seen by every preacher who climbs the steps into the pulpit, a challenge and reminder of their task is to help people to see Jesus, to come into the presence of God, and to respond to the encounter.  In another church, the church steward prayed with me before the service began. In his prayer he asked “that she will be inspired by the Holy Spirit as she preaches your word and that we will be open to the message.” There was no doubt that the Holy Spirit would be present as we worshipped.
