Preaching problems

Author: Andy Peck
THE SCENARIO   When I first started leading a church, I felt the most important part of my calling was preaching and I made sure my work pattern reflected it. I spent hours and hours on study and preparation. I still believe preaching is hugely important, but over the years I seem to have had less and less time to give to it. There are many weeks when I am throwing something together last thing on a Saturday evening. Part of me wonders if this matters – God seems to use what I say, and there is something wonderfully clarifying about a tight deadline! But I also have a sneaking anxiety that I am selling my congregation short. Do you think I should take a look at my workload and make the changes and sacrifices that would be necessary to give more time to sermon preparation, or am I doing all right?
