Modern relationships: navigating the new normal

Author: Andy Peck
The world of dating and relationships is changing fast. I asked almost 1500 Christians about their experiences of romance (or the lack of) and was immersed in the challenges and joys of navigating shifting etiquette, ethics and technology. Though people may meet via smartphones more than over post-church coffee, the importance of personal faith shone through their responses.  A knee-jerk desire to pine for the good old days of courtship and parental involvement may be tempting (especially if you’ve been saving up sheep as a dowry), but there’s no going back. Just 2% of people who responded to my research for my Relatable book, believed God wasn’t involved in their personal lives. Almost nine in ten said their faith had influenced their relationship decisions, and even more thought it was helpful to pray about relationships. The desire to integrate belief and behaviour may have evolved, and personal ethics may vary, but including God in the search for meaningful connections still mattered.
