Looking for a leader

Author: Andy Peck
The news came as a shock. Everyone said we couldn’t imagine life without them. A suitable party was arranged, heartfelt speeches were made and gifts were exchanged. The final sermon was preached. Then they were gone.  Like breaking up, change is such a hard thing to do. Some feel jilted. Others bereft. Still others are secretly glad to move on. When the preacher and pastor leaves, or the charity chief executive moves on, all kinds of mixed emotions surface.   And this is when it goes well. At other times the end is more traumatic. Perhaps the leader has been in post for a generation, or they were the first person ever to speak at the church. Sometimes the end can be bloody.  Now it’s time to look for a new leader. A person as good at preaching as their long-lamented predecessor. Someone who can fill their shoes and continue their ministry. A replica of what has gone before.   Really?
