It was salutary to receive the invitation to write this article and to realise that 10 years have passed since I sat in the hall at the Methodist Conference, discussing with Jo Swinney her plans for the first edition of Preach. Much has happened in that decade that has influenced our approach to preaching, perhaps nothing more significantly than the Covid-19 pandemic.
I have frequently argued over the last four years that when pandemics change the world, it is almost always by accelerating changes already in train. Ten years ago, we were becoming accustomed to new technologies, both to support our preaching through the use of images or video, and to reach those not in front of us through streaming. Now, those are often givens.
