How I prepare by Adrian Dawe

As a message, it must, of course, come from God in the first place. For me, it is usually through the following channels. God often speaks through a preacher, written article or more often through a scripture reading in my daily devotions.
The message sometimes comes to me for a specific appointment, a meeting or church service. At other times, a clear message and theme come to me before I know where I am meant to preach it, as happened recently in the following incident.
The well-known scripture John 3:16 and 17 (my favourite) impressed itself upon me, and after prayer, I was soon enabled to put it together as a message from the Lord for a congregation sometime in the future. Two or three weeks later, I was invited to speak at a church who had chosen John 3:16 and 17 as their 2021 Church Motto. They asked whether I would preach on this scripture! I was able to reply, ‘Of course, God has already given me the message!’
This is how the Holy Spirit works. How encouraging when it happens like that.
PREPARATION
Back to preparation. I pray and look for a ‘framework’ to hang the sermon/message on. For example, as I write this, Isaiah 6 (Isaiah’s vision) has impressed itself upon me. The framework which has appeared as I prayerfully read the narrative again is that:
