Five tips for preaching to an all-age audience
Author: Andy PeckPost Date: 24.12.17
I’ve been leading all-age worship in a variety of contexts for 25 years. I’d like to share with you what I have discovered along the way that has made these gathered times together more fun, exciting and meaningful rather than filled with dread and foreboding!
1. Enjoy it
Firstly, enjoy it. In Isaiah 61:10 (NLT) we read, ‘I am overwhelmed with joy in the LORD my God! For he has dressed me with the clothing of salvation and draped me in a robe of righteousness’. Think about that verse for a moment. We have wonderful, life-giving truth to share and when we are preaching to an all-age congregation, it really helps set the tone if we enjoy what we are doing! Children particularly can smell fear – they have a great eye for when an adult doesn’t want to be doing something but thinks they should. For me however, enjoying it is more than that – it is about seeing, remembering and being fully present.
