In conversation with Miriam Swaffield

Author: Andy Peck
MIRIAM SWAFFIELD works for Fusion (fusion.uk.com) as Student Mission Leader. She has been in growing demand as a speaker over the past five years, and has a huge platform both nationally and internationally for someone still in her mid-twenties. We met in a café in central London and, over whopping salads and a gingery apple drink concoction, discussed her life as a young, female and clearly very gifted communicator.  JS What does your role with Fusion involve and how did you come to be doing it?   My role is anything to do with local churches reaching students and students sharing their faith with their mates in everyday life. That’s what I’m interested in – I love it. I absolutely love it.   It has come as a bit of a surprise to find myself doing it. I suppose if I had any ambition it was to change the world for Jesus. I maybe expected to teach drama in prisons or something. When I went to university I didn’t know Fusion existed, and I didn’t know I could lead or speak in church. I wasn’t oppressed by that, I just wasn’t aware.   JS You thought you couldn’t because of your gender?
